My First Spiritual Teacher

The first spiritual teacher in Jiayuh Chyan’s life was her father, Shing-Chiao Chyan.

In his early years, Shing-Chiao Chyan was a basketball coach. Through years of continuous effort and perseverance, he eventually became a middle school principal, a position he held for several decades until his passing. While he was alive, he was such a bright light, with a generous heart and a willingness to help others, shining his light on everyone around him. Throughout his life, he devoted himself to educating and supporting the teachers and students at his school, helping them create better lives.

He paid special attention to students whose families were struggling and made every effort to talk with them regularly and understand their circumstances. He even once welcomed a student into his own home and cared for her as if she were his own child because her parents were unwilling to spend the money to raise her and support her education.

At the beginning of her spiritual journey, Jiayuh Chyan had so many painful wounds that needed healing. Although her father had already been gone for many years, whenever she did not know what to do, his image would always come to her mind. She began talking with her father in her heart.

Her father’s love and wisdom came to her continuously through these countless conversations in her heart, helping her through difficult times and guiding her, step by step, onto her spiritual path.
